DER Plan Sets — Battery Storage
At HPH Solutions we design Distributed Energy Resource (DER) systems — solar and battery storage as one project, not as a battery bolted onto a finished PV design. Storage drives architecture decisions upstream, where they belong.
How HPH Designs Storage
Every HPH plan set is either PV-only (solar without battery) or DER (solar with battery storage). DER scope includes the code reviews, listing verifications, and AHJ coordination that storage actually requires — built into the design, not added at the end.
DER pricing is published on our service pages: Drafting ($350 DER residential) and Solar Design ($625 DER residential). Small commercial DER pricing is on the commercial page.
DER scope adds storage-specific code review and architecture decisions on top of the standard PV plan set deliverables.
Code Review
Energy Storage Systems compliance review: disconnects, working space, signage, ventilation requirements, and the interaction between battery DC and any AC-coupled inverter feed.
Code Review
Stationary Energy Storage Installation: setbacks, separation distances, ventilation, fire detection and suppression where required, and the AHJ-specific overlays that govern siting in residential and small commercial applications.
Listing Verification
UL 9540 (Energy Storage Systems and Equipment) listing verification on every battery selected. UL 9540A test data referenced where AHJ siting depends on flame propagation behavior.
Architecture
Coupling selected against retrofit vs. greenfield, inverter compatibility, backup-load architecture, and program eligibility. We document the why, not just the wiring.
AHJ Coordination
Battery installations in many AHJs trigger fire marshal review for setbacks, addressability, and emergency response signage. We flag where review is required and prepare submittals accordingly.
Program Design
Telemetry-capable equipment, communications path, and program-compliant configuration baked in upstream so the system can enroll in a VPP after PTO without rework.
When storage drives the design, the rest of the system is sized to it. The PV array, the inverter selection, the backup-load architecture, and the panel schedules all flow from the storage decision — not the other way around. This is the lens HPH brings to every DER project.
The industry has been bundling battery storage under solar and underpricing it for years. We don't. Storage scope is real work, and it's priced as such — DER plan sets are $100 over PV-only at the drafting tier and $175 over PV-only at the design tier. Transparent, published, no hidden code-review hours.
Hands-on plan-set experience across the storage and VPP-capable equipment your team is specifying. Sonnen specialty; broad bench across the rest of the residential and small commercial DER stack.
Ownership Models
We design plan sets for direct-purchase, loan-financed, and Third-Party-Owned systems — including Sunrun, Sunnova, Tesla, GoodLeap-financed, and other PPA / lease structures — plus VPP-enrolled systems post-PTO.
